In this studio course, students will learn how to depict the human figure using a variety of traditional and contemporary mediums. Basic anatomy through the study of the human skeleton and live models will allow students to improve their drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques. In-class projects and homework assignments will encourage students to find personal approaches to this age-old artistic endeavor.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will learn to better observe and control eye-hand coordination and have a better understanding of anatomy.
  2. Students will experiment with a plurality of techniques and appropriate them to represent the live model. They will become more familiar with this practice. Their eye will be more seasoned.
  3. They will know how to adapt to the duration of the poses: drawing figures in movement in a few seconds, deepening a study over a longer period of time.
  4. They will see more clearly the unity of a body, its volume in space. They will become familiar with notions such as emptiness and fullness, light, the composition of figures on the sheet, the perception of movement, the structure of the human body.
  5. They will deepen their knowledge of the works and the role of live models.
  6. They will adopt a sensitive and non-normative view of the human body.
